On a perfect Spring day for tennis, Formby Holy Trinity Tennis Club held a family tournament, sponsored by Quorn, who donated all the prizes, including T shirts, certificates and stickers etc.
The main prize on offer from Quorn to the winners was a day out at a professional grass court tournament and the chance to play at that tournament against the other winners from other Clubs in the region!
Each pair playing had to comprise an adult and a 10 & U family member and all the matches were played in a fun, friendly and gently competitive spirit.
After the group stages were completed, two high quality semi finals were played out. In the first semi, Lynn and Sean McGarry edged past Jason and Kian Mcleod to advance to the Final. The second semi was of epic proportions with Steve and Elliot Cray finally just getting the better of Jan and Lucy Showering 14 – 12, saving four match points in the process!
The final itself was a high quality affair with Cray’s just coming through 10-8, holding off the stern resistance of the McGarry’s.
All the children at the end of the event received some form of prize and it was universally agreed that a great day had been enjoyed by everyone who had participated.
